+ Quarterly issue of The Avant-Garde newsletter and monthly calendar with announcements, exhibitions, classes, programs and other events of interest. + Participation in annual member exhibition and ARTspace. + Discounts on art classes and workshops. + Networking opportunities with other artists, discovering other exhibition venues in the marketplace, and sharing techniques through programs. + ArtShare: Artists network with other artists and share their techniques through lectures and demonstrations, September through May, second Tuesdays. + ARTspace - Virtual and Gallery Member Exhibitions: Allows artist-members the opportunity to simultaneously showcase their work in two gallery "spaces" by virtually displaying the exhibition on the website and in the main gallery at the art center. + Attoyac Writers' Guild: The overall mission of the writers' guild is to provide a forum of support and information to both aspiring and established writers and poets, to create a circle of assistance to those interested with marketing literary works for publication and to establish a peer network for writing improvements, discussion and critiques. The Attoyac Writers' Guild meet September though May, third Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Art Center. + Resource Learning Center: With donations from the community, the library facility at the Art Center house over 400+ art related books and research material available to members. Members can check out books and the library is open to the public for in-house research. + Outdoor Sculpture Display: A permanent display area on the grounds was created to provide a venue for any sculptor artists to exhibit their work. + Art at the Airport: The City of Center has granted LAAL artist-members to utilize the lobby space at the Center Municipal Airport as gallery space - application packages are available.
Woodrow Foster - Texas State Artist 1991 and LAAL Honorary Member
The Grand Opening for the LAAL Art Center was held September 15, 2006 with a Woodrow Foster Art Exhibition. At the ribbon cutting, Mr. Foster was awarded the degree of LAAL Honorary Member. In September 2007, the Resource Learning Center was dedicated in his honor.
Mr. Woodrow Foster began his artistic careert in Pigeon, a small farming community in West Texas. Foster was appointed Texas State Artist in 1991 by the Texas Poet Laureate, State Musician and State Artist Committee. Foster was born on November 5, 1912, and currently lives in the Short Community, outside of Center, Texas.
